2023-24 Cook School Parent and Family Engagement Policy

At Cook Elementary School, we value the partnership we have with all of our families. Parent and
family engagement is a vital part of student academic achievement and positive socioemotional
well-being. Please review our 2023-24 School Parent and Family Engagement Policy.

• Family and community members will be invited to all SSC/ELAC meetings where input and
  feedback are requested and information on these policies is provided. All proposals to amend
  a policy will be added to the agenda and discussed. Any policy change will be presented to
  staff and voted on by committee members.

• All suggestions and ideas for policy change will be shared, added to the agenda, discussed,
  and voted on by our SSC/ELAC committee members.

• Parents are invited to attend SSC/ELAC Committee meetings where public comments are
  permitted. Feedback and questions are also requested throughout the meeting. All concerns
  will be listened to and addressed. Policy changes will be voted on by committee members.

• The meeting times for all SSC/ELAC meetings including the Title I meeting are shared with the
  community through ParentSquare and the agenda is always posted at the front of the school at
  least 72 hours prior to the meetings. Families are invited to attend our annual Title I meeting
  that takes place at the beginning of the school year. Translation is available for families that
  speak another language during this meeting.

• Community meetings are scheduled at various times during the school year. Parent-Principal
  Chats are offered in the morning at 8:30am, SSC/ELAC meetings take place at 2:45pm during
  the school year, and Family Events (Back to School Night, Music Concerts, PTO Events, Open
  House) take place in the evenings between 5:00 to 6:00pm. For all meetings, translation is
  available for our families. Upon request, Zoom meetings may be available.

• During Back To School Night, the principal holds a parent meeting to share about curriculum,
  assessments, CA state standards, achievement levels, and progress monitoring. Information
  is also shared throughout the school year via ParentSquare, Parent-Principal Chats, school
  committee meetings, and family events. Teachers share about curriculum during Back to
  School Night, Parent/Teacher conferences, regular and ongoing communications, progress
  reports, and report cards. Parents are invited as partners in academic success through all of
  our community activities and special events.

• During staff meetings, the principal shares data to emphasize the importance of parent
  involvement and invites staff to actively engage parents in supporting students' academic and
  socio-emotional progress. Staff also actively engages with parents on school committees
  including our SSC and ELAC which further emphasizes and strengthens the importance of
  valuable parental input and engagement at our school site.

• Cook Elementary School works to increase opportunities for parental involvement in PTO,
  School Site Council, and ELAC. Committee Members all work together to increase parental
  participation through opportunities to volunteer, share ideas, glean information about school
  programs, and connect our families to our school. School community liaisons greatly facilitate
  this effort through providing translation and vital resources available through our district Parent
  Resource Center.
